We are excited to share three new research papers from the Healthy Ageing in a Digital World project, exploring key challenges and opportunities in digital health for older individuals.

Barriers to Digital Health Services for Individuals Aged 75+
This study examines the challenges older adults face when using digital health services in Finland. Findings highlight issues such as poor website usability, difficulties with online booking, and a lack of real-time interaction. Additionally, factors like digital skills, device availability, and physical or cognitive limitations further impact accessibility. The research underscores the need for more user-friendly and inclusive digital health solutions.

Digital Media Use in Danish Nursing Homes
Investigating digital media use among individuals aged 75+ in Danish nursing homes, this study emphasizes the critical role of relatives and caregivers in digital health communication. It highlights the barriers faced by residents, especially those without close family members, and the resulting digital divide. The findings stress the importance of "warm experts", co-actors in health, and proxy users in ensuring more inclusive digital health experiences.

Ageing Technologies and Digital Health Security Concerns
This research explores the impact of outdated computers and smartphones on older adults' well-being and their use of digital health technologies. It addresses the challenges of maintaining ageing devices and the influence of data security concerns on digital health engagement. The study calls for a stronger focus on the social dimensions of technology use and maintenance in designing digital health solutions for older populations.

These studies provide valuable insights into the evolving digital landscape for older adults, emphasizing the need for accessible, inclusive, and supportive digital health services.
